Working example of the Voting system
A simple example involving four parties
Round one
- Party A obtains 40 votes
- Party B obtains 35 votes
- Party C obtains 28 votes
- Party D obtains 18 votes
Party A gets the first MEP. Its vote is divided by 2 .
Round two
In the next "round" the Votes are as follows :
- Party A 20 votes
- Party B 35 votes
- Party C 28 votes
- Party D 18 votes
Party B gets the second MEP. Party B's vote is then divided by 2
Round three
- Party A 20 votes
- Party B 17.5 votes
- Party C 28 votes
- Party D 18 votes
Party C gets the third MEP. Party C's vote is then divided by 2
Round four
- Party A 20 votes
- Party B 17.5 votes
- Party C 14 votes
- Party D 18 votes
Party A gets the fourth MEP.
As Party A has already won a seat, Party A's original vote is then divided by 3 (40 divided by 3 = 13.33)
Round five
- Party A 13.33 votes
- Party B 17.5 votes
- Party C 14 votes
- Party D 18 votes
Party D gets the fifth MEP and so on.
